PROCESS

Attitude, Behaviour, Culture and Processes. The Sticky Way.

Sustainable change can only begin at the top. Once we have your top team committed to this intervention we roll out this comprehensive process that looks at developing people in line with organizational needs.

APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY

Once a CEO gives us his view of the organizational needs, symptoms and issues, we enrich and validate them by listening to other stakeholders. This provides us greater insight into the business context and people issues. We use this to reach an agreement on issues that need attention and establish the way forward. The resulting approach has six essential components—

MINDSHIFT WORKSHOP

This is an opportunity for the top team to introspect on their achievement orientation. We create an environment that encourages team members to be vulnerable and authentic. This helps the team learn to appreciate differences while building trust and mutual respect. Members come back with optimism and renewed relationships.

WORKPLACE CHALLENGES

To apply the learning in a real work context, we help the team finalise a list of adaptive challenges or opportunities that can provide a quantum leap in performance. Since adaptive challenges are largely ambiguous and have unclear solutions, they need to be worked on in cross functional groups with collective will and effort – a big first step in breaking the oft-cited, dreaded silos.

SKILLS & COMPETENCY DEVELOPMENT

Based on our interaction and your training needs assessment process, we jointly identify the skills that need to be developed. We have developed a series of high impact skill modules that we have found to be relevant for most teams. We then co-develop a skill modules calendar.

DEVELOPING FUTURE LEADERS

When triangulated with performance data, potential assessment and the 360-degree, our extensive interaction with the team helps you identify high potentials. We then create focused individual development plans that could include training, on-the-job exposure and one-on-one coaching.

ALIGN WITH HR PROCESSES

This journey is designed to be in sync with your existing performance management and talent selection processes. Wherever possible, we use what exists or we help you articulate vision and values, design various scorecards, and build your leadership competency framework and performance management process.

GOVERNANCE & MEASUREMENT

Often, business as usual takes precedence over people development and adaptive challenges. To help stay on track, we recommend that the CEO head a governance system to periodically review the development journey. At the end of a 9-month period, we measure progress by repeating the 360-degree feedback, self-evaluation and analyzing progress on the adaptive challenge.

PROGRAMS

No Telling, No Cookie-cutter Solutions. Co-creating Learning.

THE EXPER LEADERSHIP JOURNEY

Leadership development does not occur overnight, thus we approach it as a journey.

The Exper Leadership Journey, is a 6-12 month long partnership that starts from the top. We begin with an Appreciative Inquiry to understand the members, the culture and the current reality. This is followed by a series of programs, work place projects and coaching assignments. Buy in of the CEO and an internal governance structure that supports the leadership journey are essential for its success.

Being practicing professionals who run a fairly complex business (www.inme.in), our programs are designed with actionable and practical implementation in mind. In addition to that, the theoretical underpinning of our programs is greatly influenced by the works of leading thought leaders such as Peter Senge, Warren Bennis, C.K Prahlad, Daniel Kahnemann, Nicholas Nassim Taleb, Kurt Lewin, John Dewey, Martin Seligman, Daniel Goleman, Peter Drucker, Patrick Lencioni and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.

Following are our 9 most popular workshops within the Exper Leadership Journey framework. Where appropriate, some of these can also be delivered as stand alone modules.

1. WINNING TEAMS

2. EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS

This residential workshop helps teams energize, develop synergies, work across functions, break silos, unblock communication channels, and embrace a more achievement oriented mind-set. In an environment designed to allow experimentation and reflection, participants are guided to understand each other and the human dynamics resulting from differences in styles, preferences and behaviours.  They gain practical tools and frameworks that help them work more effectively to achieve more challenging goals. The workshop helps teams learn to collaborate and engage with energy and strategic intent.

This program leverages psychometric instruments such as MBTI, FIRO-B, Thomas Kilmann, and DISC as well as carefully context specific role plays to help participants build more fulfilling and productive relationships at work. From building an understanding of our psychological needs, personal profiles and preferences on how we perceive the work, to how we manage conflicts, the workshop helps participants develop skills that help them relate more meaningfully and respectfully with others at work.

3. MANAGING CHANGE

4. INFLUENCING FOR RESULTS

Knowing that the majority of change initiatives at work tend to fail or don’t realize their full potential, this workshop is built around a powerful licensed simulation developed at INSEAD’s center for learning technologies. Participants gain insights and skills in the theory and practice of change management. From enhancing their understanding of the change process, dynamics of resistance and how to tackle it, to understanding and catering to the needs of various stakeholder needs, participants become more adept at leading successful change initiatives in their organization.

This workshop helps participants examine their natural persuasion style and understand how to play win-win the other side for mutual gains. Participants will learn how to frame and present their arguments, reason with the other side, create options, and remove barriers to reach agreement. While negotiations have to do with resolving issues where there may be a potential conflict of interest, persuasion and influencing is simply a skill that helps you get things done effectively – something of vital importance at the workplace.

5. HIGH IMPACT COMMUNICATION

6. THINKING & DECISION MAKING

This program addresses both the theory (what is happening in the mind) and skills (how to overcome) to become effective communicators that are able to create impact. Ideal for people struggling with key communication skills, lacking assertiveness or shying from difficult conversations such as giving feedback, participants understand and practice skills for both one-to-one and one-to-many conversations. The sessions uses video feedback to build skills to address large groups, deal with difficult conversations, develop assertiveness, and have critical conversations including feedback exchange.

In this workshop, participants are introduced to the pitfalls, paradigms and frameworks of how we think (and how tend to use and misuse that ability). Built largely around the works of Daniel Kahneman, participants understand the difference between System 1 and System 2 thinking. The program will equip participants with knowledge about thinking, skill them to help themselves and others in avoiding the pitfalls, provide them with tools for better quality of decisions, especially in ambiguous situations and be able to drive better group decision-making (both effective and efficient).

7. FACILITATING BUSINESS DIALOGUE

8. COACHING FOR PERFORMANCE

This is a business specific workshop and often a part of an organization’s annual review and planning meet. Derived from the 'world cafe' format, our practical and organizational specific framework helps senior teams share their views and brainstorm in smaller groups around the current state of things, desired objectives, key gaps, and top actions that need to be addressed & then share and consolidate those as a larger team. We set the stage for the round table dialogue by sharing with the team some insights and inputs on what often goes wrong during brainstorming sessions and how biases and perceptions prevent us from listening with a desire to understand and explore new ideas. The focus is to motivate the team to move from what ‘we do’ to what ‘we can do’ and end with a blueprint on ‘how’ we will succeed together.

This workshop is designed to help senior managers effectively coach their direct reports. Participants learn how to deeply understand the current state of their DRs (skills, behaviors, roles, performance), explore the desired state (aspirations, expectations), and focus on guiding them towards thoughtful and measurable actions with accountability. Participants also end up with a personal coaching tool-kit built around the GROW coaching framework.

9. LARGE GROUP FACILITATION

This is a large format workshop designed to align, energize or cascade key messages across the larger organization. Mostly done as part of the closure of our leadership journey, this can also be designed and customized as a stand-alone large group experiential workshop, or as part of conferences and group meets.

Build Leadership and Teaming Skills. Push the Envelope.

At Exper, we believe that leadership is action – yet leadership development often remains in books, buried under unnecessary jargon – more theory than practice. We pride ourselves on being ‘practicing professionals’ and not just HR consultants – we have built businesses, created brands, acquired customers, set up delivery infrastructures, managed sales processes and provided top box customer service. We know how businesses run.

After 20 years in this field we have learned that leadership development is a process not an event. It needs listening more than prescription and has to be inclusive and contextual. The process needs engagement and commitment as it is about adaptive challenges and not business as usual.

Above all, it is collective rather than individual, thus our work focuses on leadership teams and not just individual leaders.

Over the last decade, we have designed and facilitated programs for over 200 organizations  - ranging from Fortune 500 companies to SMEs  across industries.
